End of Life Doula Services
Compassionate Guidance at Every Stage
While we can’t stop death, loss, or grief, we can meet these experiences with openness, preparation, and care. End of Life Doula services provide heart-centered, non-medical, and non-religious support to individuals and families as they navigate life’s most profound transitions—whether planning ahead or actively facing end-of-life.
What Is an End of Life Doula?
An End of Life (EOL) Doula is a trained professional who offers emotional, logistical, and practical support before, during, and after death. Unlike hospice teams, doulas are not medical providers. Instead, they act as companions, advocates, and grounded guides through an often-overwhelming time.
Think of a doula as a compassionate project or task manager for the end-of-life journey—someone who brings clarity, calm, and coordination to the experience.
As an End of Life Doula certified through the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont, I support individuals and their loved ones by creating compassionate, grounded spaces for care, reflection, and connection. My work extends beyond the final days—I also assist with planning and preparation well before end-of-life concerns arise, and I advocate for normalizing conversations around death, dying, and grief.
I was called to this work after the sudden death of my father, though my experiences within the death and grief realm began long before then. Those personal losses instilled in me a deep commitment to walk alongside others as they navigate their own journeys through loss and transition.
When we lose someone we love, we’re often overwhelmed—not just with emotions, but with the many tasks and responsibilities that come with death. As a doula, I aim to ease that burden, so those I serve can focus on what truly matters: honoring their loved ones and tending to their own healing.

How End of Life Doula Support Differs From Hospice
While hospice care provides essential medical support at the end of life, an End of Life Doula offers non-medical, holistic, and emotional support to individuals and their loved ones. Here's a comparison:
Hospice End of Life Doula
Overseen by medical staff (nurses doctors) Non-medical support focused on emotional, spiritual, and logistical needs
Provides pain management and physical care Offers presence, legacy work, vigil planning, and companionship
Typically available through insurance Private, often out-of-pocket service that complements hospice
Time with patients may be limited Flexible, personalized time and presence as needed
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be dying or in hospice to work with an End of Life Doula?
Not at all. Many clients work with a doula proactively to make end-of-life plans, clarify their wishes, or support a loved one. Doula support is for any stage of the journey.
Is a Doula a replacement for hospice?
No. Doulas provide non-medical, complementary support that works alongside medical and hospice care. Think of it as an added layer of personal support.
Is Doula support religious?
No. My services are non-religious and fully customizable to your values and beliefs. I respect and honor all backgrounds.
Can you help me write my obituary or legacy message?
Yes. Obituary writing, storytelling, and legacy projects are part of the services I offer. It's never too early to start.
Can your services be provided virtually?
Yes. While some aspects are best supported in person (like bedside presence or family rituals), many services — such as coaching, planning, and emotional support — can be provided via phone or video.
